Unbanked is a characteristic describing people who do not use banks or financial institutions often times because they do not have access to banking services or because they prefer cash transactions outside the banking system.

The unbanked are adults who do not have their own bank accounts. Along with the underbanked, they may rely on alternative financial services for their financial needs, where these are available.
